AUTHOR

When Doug was twelve, he decided he
wanted to write gritty fiction like his heroes
John D. MacDonald, Ross McDonald
and Mickey Spillane.

So, when he got the chance, he went to work as a deputy sheriff and had the opportunity to drive fast cars with lights and sirens, be shot at, and arrest evildoers (sometimes all in the same day). He followed that with a much less strenuous stint as a security consultant, and from there segued to twenty-five years as a television and radio reporter covering crime, much of that time in Chicago and nearby suburbs.

His first protagonist (in Deader by the Lake and Every Secret Crime) was a tough TV reporter named Reno McCarthy. His latest series follows a hard-nosed ex-federal agent-turned-suburban-deputy police chief named Harry Cork.

Doug is a safe-behavior instructor and enjoys biking, weight-training, sailing, kayaking and swimming when he’s not otherwise occupied as concierge for his three cats.
